Valentine’s day menu-Warning: Full of fat and cholesterol!
13 Feb
Most popular food items consumed on Valentine’s day:
Filet mignon
Whipped cream
Chocolate
Not only do these foods sounds delicious, they will keep you sexually healthy as well. Fat is where it’s at on Valentine’s. Don’t believe the Peta ads telling you you’ll get rid of ED by eating fruits & veg.
Go read this article about a diet that is good for ED:

Since we are dealing with Valentine’s Day and its direct association with amorous behaviour, I would like to mention a few things about the foods you mentioned. First off, Filet Mignon, one of my favorites is high in cholesterol. Let’s analyze what this means biochemically.
Testosterone governs libido (sexual drive) in both men and women. Testosterone is derived from cholesterol. Therefore, the less cholesterol one consumes, the less testosterone one will create. This equates into a diminished libido.
Looking at heavy cream, which contains both saturated fat and cholesterol, this will of course provide cholesterol for the subsequent
creation of testosterone.
Now what about the saturated fat in heavy cream, isn’t that bad for us, doesn’t it cause heart disease, make us obese and cause cancer? Well, uh, no. I first need to state that I am a Board Certified Family Physician with nearly twenty years of clinical experience dealing specifically with dietary manipulation and its relationship to disease. Oh yeah, and I studied nutritional biochemistry and cellular physiology too. One of the most consistent things I’ve seen is that the more saturated fat and cholesterol one consumes in their diet, the higher their HDL, the lower the fats (triglycerides) become in the blood, the lower the blood pressure and blood sugars become, the more weight one loses, the less inflammation is seen in the body (as measured by two biochemical markers known as the C-reactive protein and ESR or erythrocyte sedimentation rate) and I am just getting started.
So if eating saturated fat is so darn bad for us, why have I seen so many good things happen from a medical perspective when people eat that way?
Why? Well, because that’s the way we should be eating in the first place.
Ok, so back to Valentine’s Day and all that amore that will be going on tomorrow. We already know how cholesterol containing foods help us to be amorous in the first place, but how could saturated fat help us too?
Well, it just so happens that our body’s prefer to use, actually they can only use, free fatty acids once our glycogen stores are used up; which by the way happens in about 15 minutes. So if one wants to continue with that, well, shall we say amorous behaviour (I’m trying to keep this Rated G) for greater than 15 minutes; the consumption of saturated fat will definitely help us realize that goal and please our mate.
Oh yeah, and by the way, chocolate contains a high amount of saturated fat; need I say more.
So, my advice, poor some heavy cream over that Filet Mignon and finish up with a bunch of chocolate. This will sure make the Leporidae family indeed jealous.
How’s that for keeping this comment appropriate for the entire family?
BTW Erika, I checked out your link and it was right on; inflammation is directly related to low fat/low cholesterol as this eating style equates with the increased consumption of pro-inflammatory mediators. That is, carbohydrates. The comments made about ED were correct as well.
Hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!
Oh my goodness, I realized I got side tracked with my last comment from the get go. Way to answer the question at hand Dr. Jim. LOL. As far as ED is concerned, if you suffer from it, eat more fat and cholesterol, stop smoking and drinking (if you’re over doing it), exercise, and get off any medications you possibly can and this should go a long way to help your ED.
BTW, alot of medications we docs use to treat high blood pressure, diabetes and elevated triglycerides (and many others) have a direct effect on a male’s ability to obtain and maintain an erection. Since starting a supervised low carb regimen with a doctor who understands low carbs will help you to get off most if not all the meds just mentioned, this will obviously help us guys with ED.
I have seen many a male patient who was on 5 or more meds with associated ED, be able to come off all their meds and eradicate their ED, so long they start and continue a low carb, more fat/cholesterol and protein eating style. This is not the exception in my practice but the rule.
For anyone reading this comment who is on medications and is suffering from ED, do not under any circumstances stop your meds without first consulting with either your physician or a doc who fully understands the low carb lifestyle. If your current physician tells you low carbs are dangerous and eating more fat/cholesterol is dangerous, GO GET YOURSELF ANOTHER DOCTOR WHO UNDERSTANDS THE IMPORTANCE OF LOW CARBS!!!!
Thanks to Jimmy Moore, all you have to do if you live in the US is search ‘Low Carb Doctor’s’ on any search engine and a list of low carb docs will be provided to you.
